postheadericon Hosting Company Problems

May 14th, 2008

Hello everybody
This isn’t really a music/audio thing, but I gotta spread this around for all you musicians out there with websites.
I have about 10-15 websites hosted by Hostony. I havent’ really had a problem in the past 5 or 6 years until today.
I was out of the office until about 3 PM this afternoon, came in, turned on my computer, and tried to access my sites via FTP.
I couldn’t get in….the loggin failed.
To make a long story short, the support form told me that I had sent out 200 emails in the last hour, and had been reported as spam, so they suspended my account.
Well, I knew I didn’t do it, but they had a log with the spam email selling a fake Rolex watch, which I didn’t send, but the return address was postmaster@lazertrax.com, which is my site.
I couldn’t even retrieve the files on the server….and it appeared that they wouldn’t even respond to me. I emailed a supervisor, sent multiple text messages, etc and got no response.
I then found a guy on the web that had the same thing happen, and it turned out to be hackers in the Ukraine that use your email address to send spam. I sent his post to the support guy, and heard nothing
Finally, they said they would turn the site back on .
I then responded if there was a way to keep this from happening in the future, and he said not to send more than 150 email messages in 1 hr…still thinking I was the spammer!
So, the bottom line is, don’t host with Hostony. They don’t care about their customers, and will shut you off in a heartbeat…guilty and convicted…with no argument!
Yak later

postheadericon Hello Everybody!

Just thought I’d let you know what’s going on over at Creative Digital here in Atlanta., and also give you an idea of what you go through in the corporate music world.
You know those songs about Waffle House on the jukebox? Well we’ve been writing and recording them for about 27 years now here at
Creative Digital, and we’re in the process of recording a new one right now, called “I’ll Be Waiting For You at the Waffle House” . It’s going through the approval process right now, so we don’t know if it will actually be used or not. It has to go all the way to the owner, Joe Rogers, to get approval, and he doesn’t hear it until it’s finished, or almost finished. We just finished 2 other songs that didn’t get approved, even though the idea came from an emplyee that is in charge of such things…
We usually start out with a song idea that our contact approves of, then my partner Jerry Buckner, writes lyrics.  By the way, Jerry Buckner is of the Buckner and Garcia fame…they wrote a song in the early 80’s called “Pac Man Fever”, which sold over a million copies. (another one-hit-wonder)
Any way, after the song lyrics are approved, we decide on a style, and write the song, which is usually in the style of some hit song….they seem to get approved easier that just coming up with something
totally original….
At this point, it’s a process of finding the right singer…I usually sing the demo myself, and go from there. Waffle House has to approve of the singer, and we keep submitting the song as it progresses for approval. It’s really quite a long process…sometimes 8 or 9 months or more before it actually gets on the jukebox.
If you’re interested in hearing past songs, just go in any Waffle House and look for the songs on the
Waffle House label…usually in yellow…
Well, I hope this gives you a little insite into the corporate music world. You have to be totally unemotional and not attached to your music, because it can get shot down in an instant by someone
in the company that just doesn’t like that type of music, and they don’ t have any musical background
in the least.
Well, that’s it for now. Hope you have gotten a little knowledge out of this.
See ya next time…oh by the way, if you want to hear the WH song in it’s final stages but not finished(the singer isn’t even approved yet) go here:
